Meet The Team

Dr Ben Katz is Director of Kew Endoscopy since its inception in 2003. Dr Katz graduated from medicine in 1981 and completed his fellowship specialising in Gastroenterology in 1991 through Prince Henry’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.

His practice includes management of digestive diseases including Gastro-Oesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer disease, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Colon Cancer screening and Hepato-biliary disease. He is fully certified for endscopic procedures including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and Capsule Endoscopy of the Small intestine.

Dr Katz has appointments at Monash Medical Centre, Cabrini Hospital and Epworth Hospital. He is a member of RACP and GESA and regularly attends local and international conferences.

Dr Ross Balson is an experienced gastroenterologist having trained at The Royal Melbourne and Western Hospitals and subsequently in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne in private practice and at Box Hill Hospital for 20 years where he established the hepatitis clinic.

In 2005, he worked at St. Thomas' hospital in London where he trained in EUS (endoscopic ultrasound), a specialised procedure used in the staging and diagnosis of pancreatic and other cancers. He was one of the first few gastroenterologists in Melbourne to train in EUS.

He has a particular interest in bowel cancer screening and prevention through colonoscopy and is an approved colonoscopist of the National Bowel Cancer screening program.
 

Catherine is dedicated to raising awareness about prevention and diagnosis of digestive disease and is committed to delivering quality patient care.

Dr. Sorrell graduated from Monash University in 1993, and has had specialist training at Monash Medical Centre. She has received a fellowship in Endoscopy & Clinical Gastroenterology at Dandenong Hospital FRACP in 2000.

Dr Dilip Ratnam is a Melbourne and UK trained Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. His clinical expertise covers a wide spectrum of gastroenterological conditions including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Irritable bowel syndrome, GORD, Colon Cancer screening and Coeliac disease and he is an experienced endoscopist. Dilip also has particular expertise and interest in diseases of the liver having completed a PhD in viral hepatitis.
 

Dilip has a Bachelor of Science from Monash University, and a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University in Adelaide, SA. He undertook his Internal medicine and Gastroenterology training at The Alfred and Royal Melbourne Hospitals and also a year of specialist training in the UK at the Royal Free Hospital, one of London’s two liver transplant centres. He was awarded his fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2005.

Dr Edward Shelton is a highly experienced Gastroenterologist. He graduated with Honours from Monash University and completed a Luminal and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellowship at Monash Health. During his advanced training, he also focused on endoscopy and liver disease including viral hepatitis and transplant hepatology. He undertook a further Advanced IBD Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he held a position as a Research Fellow in Medicine at Harvard University and published research on biologic therapies in IBD.
 

Dr Shelton holds a public position at Monash Health, consults privately in Kew and Camberwell and manages inpatients at Epworth Richmond. He lectures Monash University and Melbourne University medical students and is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at Monash University. Dr Shelton is the Principal Investigator on IBD clinical trials at Emeritus Research giving his patients access to the latest biologic therapies. He is also one of a handful of IBD physicians in Australia who perform intestinal ultrasound.
 

Dr Shelton maintains an interest in research having published in local and international journals in the fields of IBD, liver disease and endoscopy. He attends both national and international conferences to maintain his professional knowledge.

After overseas training in Europe and Singapore, Mr Sitzler has performed major and minor colorectal surgery in Melbourne for over 30 years.
 

He holds public appointments at Box Hill Hospital and Blackburn Hospital, as well as private appointments at Epworth Hospital, Holmesglen Hospital, Linacre Hospital, and Cabrini Hospital.
 

He performs most colorectal surgeries, including minimally invasive surgery using robotics and laparoscopic techniques.














 

Greg Moore is Head of IBD at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne and an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Monash University.

He is a Board member of Crohn’s and Colitis Australia and Chair of the Medical and Scientific Committee of CCA.

​

He graduated from Monash University and completed Gastroenterology training at Monash Medical Centre and St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.

​

He then undertook a basic science PhD at the University of Melbourne, and returned to found the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Unit at Monash Medical Centre in 2007 where he oversees a multi-disciplinary IBD clinic providing tertiary referral services to the South East of Melbourne and country Victoria.

Greg combines private practice with coordinating clinical trials, undertaking ongoing research, supervising PhD and BMedSci students, and is an active undergraduate and post-graduate teacher.

​

Greg consults privately from Clayton and performs Endoscopy in Kew East and Glen Iris.
