For patients undergoing a Gastroscopy as a single procedure or in conjunction with a Colonoscopy, there will be a period of fasting. Please follow the instructions which will be given by your Gastroenterologist at the time of booking

Medications - Please take your usual medications the day before, but, there are however some exceptions, so please be guided by your GP or the Endoscopist. If you have any concerns, please contact the centre prior to the day of your procedure.

Do not take any medication on the day of the procedure until you arrive home. If you are on Insulin you need to discuss your regimen with the doctor responsible for your diabetes management or the gastroenterologist prior to the day of your procedure.​

You may need to stop anti-coagulant medications, such as Warfarin, Iscover, Plavix, Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Effient, Prasugrel, Xarelto if you are having a colonoscopy.
This needs to be discussed this with your GP or Specialist prior to your admission for the procedure. Only stop these medications once you have received medical advice. -
If you are having a Colonoscopy please stop taking Iron tablets, such as Ferrogradumet, Fefol, Maltofer, FAB Iron for at least one week before the procedure.

Clothing - please wear comfortable loose fitting clothing.

Discharge - Please arrange for a relative or friend to collect you approximately two hours after you procedure. You should not drive a car or operate machinery until the day following your procedure.
